Submitted by: Bimal Hegde

If you plan to buy a property in Bangalore, you surely want to keep yourself updated about the latest trends in architecture and home decor. There are plenty of 2/3bhk flats in Bangalore available for sale, but you would want to buy one that is trendy, contemporary and well designed. So, what are the residential architecture and decor trends for the year 2017? Read on.

Open layout: Open plans are all the rage today. The era when every space was demarcated with doors or walls is receding. Today, homes have spaces that merge into each other. The open kitchen is one example. They save space, make your home look larger, and are ideal for the latest decor trend that is all about minimalism. So, you would do well to look for one of the 2/3bhk flats in Bangalore that come with an open kitchen or living space.

Flooring: The flooring trend is towards easy-to-clean, glossy and water-resistant vitrified tiles. These are being used in most spaces such as the dining area, kitchen, bedrooms and living room.

Merging of interiors and exteriors: When you visit some projects in Bangalore to buy a property, you will notice that a key trend is the harmony and intermingling of interior and exterior spaces. Modern home architecture is all about trying to keep people insulated from the concrete jungle that is the contemporary city. So, you have greenery that is indoors a vertical green wall or a patch of green in your balcony is all the rage today. If it is an apartment complex, builders and developers are constantly looking at how to include a lot of greenery in the common areas.

Cantilevered designs, geometrical lines: Building exteriors are increasingly seeing a lot of cantilevered elements. They add drama, create an awe, and in many cases, enhance the lighting of your home. Straight lines in both exteriors and interior home design and decor is another trend for 2017. If you go on a visit to project sites across the city when you plan to buy a property, you will notice that homes have clean straight lines in their design and decor.

Home decor trends

Once you have decided on buying one of the 2/3bhk flats in Bangalore, the next step is to pay attention to home decor trends. One of the major trends is that a lot of terracotta elements are coming into play. You could use them in the balcony for flooring tiles, and they will go well with green patches or pots. Ceramic is another material that you will see a lot of in home decor trends this year, be it in vases, wall art, lamps, bathroom or light fixtures.

Cork is a material that adds a lot of texture to your space and make your home warm. It also absorbs noise. You could use cork for a portion of the wall, a coffee table top etc. This is a major trend for 2017, so use it well in one of the 2/3bhk flats in Bangalore that you eventually buy. Textures will rule; so you can see textures on counters, walls, and upholstery through the year. They add a certain character to your space.

Dark deep green is a colour of choice for 2017, and you could use luxurious greens for your sofas, cushion covers or curtains and rugs.

Faux ceiling beams and false finishes are a trend as well, so you can see a lot of false leather counters or fur rugs in home designs.

Keep all these in mind when you buy a property in Bangalore, and make your home the most inviting space for your loved ones!

Red Hat to move focus away from CentOS in favour of Stream; CentOS team discuss implications with Wikinews

Red Hat to move focus away from CentOS in favour of Stream; CentOS team discuss implications with Wikinews

Monday, December 14, 2020

On Tuesday, US-based software company Red Hat announced their plans to shift their focus away from CentOS in favour of CentOS Stream.

In the blog post Chris Wright, the Chief Technological Officer of Red Hat said Red Hat had informed the CentOS governing board that Red Hat was “shifting our investment fully from CentOS Linux to CentOS Stream”. At least five of the nine CentOS Governing Board listed on the project are Red Hat employees.

Started in 2004, CentOS has been a free-of-cost free/libre open source software which provided binary-code compatibility with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) — Red Hat’s GNU General Public Licensed paid operating system. CentOS was absorbed into Red Hat in 2014, with Red Hat gaining the trademark rights of “CentOS”.

Red Hat also sponsors the Fedora operating system. Red Hat even gives the software engineering interns laptops with Fedora on it. Till now, software development took place on Fedora, which was later adopted in RHEL, which the Red Hat maintained and provided support for, for those customers who had RHEL subscription. CentOS would then follow RHEL to provide the same features free of cost, but without the support.

Stream was announced in September 2019, just two months after Red Hat was acquired by IBM. CentOS Stream’s development cycle had new features added to it before the features became a part of RHEL. Stream receives more frequent updates, however, it does not follow RHEL’s release cycle.

With CentOS Stream, developments from the community and the Red Hat emplyees would take place beforehand on both Fedora, and Stream as a rolling release, before those features are absorbed into RHEL. CentOS followed the release cycle of RHEL and therefore it was a stable distribution. Features available in CentOS were tried and tested by Fedora, and then RHEL maintainers. Stream, on the other hand, has features added to it before those features become a part of RHEL. That implies Stream would be ahead of RHEL’s development, containing new features which are not yet tried and tested by RHEL developers, and not be binary code-compatible with RHEL.

Writing “The future of CentOS Linux is CentOS Stream”, Wright further wrote in the announcement, CentOS Stream “provides a platform for rapid innovation at the community level but with a stable enough base to understand production dynamics.” Wright also said, “CentOS Stream isn’t a replacement for CentOS Linux; rather, it’s a natural, inevitable next step intended to fulfill the project’s goal of furthering enterprise Linux innovation.”

Since the announcement was made, many people expressed their anger on Internet Relay Chat (IRC), Reddit and CentOS project’s mailing list. CentOS 8’s End of Life (EOL) has been moved up from May 2029 to December 31, 2021, while CentOS 7 is expected to receive maintenance updates through June 2024, outliving CentOS 8.

Gregory Kurtzer, who had started the CentOS project, announced a new operating system, Rocky Linux. Rocky Linux describes itself as “a community enterprise Operating System designed to be 100% bug-for-bug compatible with Enterprise Linux”. The project said “Rocky Linux aims to function as a downstream build as CentOS had done previously, building releases after they have been added to the upstream vendor, not before.” The project maintainers have not decided a date for when the operating system will be released.

Kurtzer explained the reason to call the OS as Rocky Linux: “Thinking back to early CentOS days… My cofounder was Rocky McGaugh. He is no longer with us, so as a H/T [hat tip] to him, who never got to see the success that CentOS came to be, I introduce to you…Rocky Linux”.

Wikinews reached out to the members of the CentOS project, Pablo Greco and Rich Bowen, to discuss this move, its implications as well as the future of CentOS. Greco is a maintainer of armhfp (32-bit processors) and is a part of the CentOS’ quality assurance team. Bowen — who unlike Greco, works for Red Hat — is the community manager of the CentOS project.

Australian government hopes to establish triage by phone

Australian government hopes to establish triage by phone
    Posted in Uncategorized | May 29th, 2021

    Sunday, January 29, 2006

The Australian federal government hopes to slash hospital emergency department waiting queues by setting up a 24-hour national medical hotline.

A government source said that the National Health Call Centre Network would be manned by registered triage nurses 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. Triage nurses would perform a diagnosis over the phone based upon the description given by the patient. The patient would then be referred to the nearest emergency department, their local GP or pharmacy – as determined by the nurse.

The issue is expected to be discussed at next month’s Council of Australian Governments (COAG) meeting in Canberra. It is believed that the states and territories are supportive of the system.

If agreed upon by COAG, the service will be jointly funded by state/territory and the commonwealth governments at a cost of $40 million a year. The service would take 18 months to set up.

The service will be ran from a centralised call centre and be managed by a private contractor.

Julia Gillard, the opposition’s spokeswoman for health said any national call service needed to be linked with local GPs and medical services.

Gillard claims that under a Labor government, an after-hours “Pizza Hut” style service would be implemented, with a single national number connecting to a local call centre.

“You would be talking to people in the locality you are in and who know the local services,” she said

The Australian Medical Association, an organisation representing more than 27,000 doctors in Australia has slammed the proposal saying it will only deter people from seeking appropriate medical treatment.

At least two people have been shot and killed in Palm Desert, California, after a gunman opened fire inside a Toys “R” Us toy store.

A spokesman for the Riverside County sheriff’s office said shots were reported to have been fired inside the store, and that two people had been shot and killed. Witnesses say that a fight erupted between two men. It then got louder and louder, when one pulled out a gun and began to shoot.

One man told the Associated Press that he thought the argument might have been due to a toy the men were fighting over.

Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving in the U.S., is traditionally known as the biggest shopping day in the country when many retailers have deep discounts and sales on many products. Shoppers generally wake up early and spend much of the day shopping.

Earlier today, a worker was killed and at least three others were injured in a Black Friday door-buster sale stampede at a Wal-Mart in Long Island, New York. They had been knocked over and trampled by a crowd of other shoppers entering the store when it opened.

Home Remodeling and Construction: Materials for Windows, Slidings, and Doors

    by

    Anthony Blommel

Almost everyone dreams of having his or her own home. People aspire to have a beautiful house in a peaceful and organized neighborhood in the city. They want to design their home and hire the service of professional architects and engineers in developing and fortifying its foundations. They wish to live with their loved ones in their own house.

However, some find it difficult to fulfill their dream. They cannot afford the hefty cost of real estate properties and raw materials for home construction. Instead of investing and building their own house, they simply rent apartments and condominiums. Be that as it may, there are people who pursue their dream and work hard to earn money for their real estate property. They invest in businesses and apply for loans. This enables them to build their home immediately. In the process, they canvass materials and coordinate with contractors to find economical and high-quality supplies for house construction. They generally look into the different types of doors, sidings, and windows. They choose first-rate and premium materials within their means. What are the basic types of doors, windows, and sidings? What are they made up of? Here are basic points about these parts of the house: Doors. Doors are classified based on their material and structure. There are five basic types of doors. These are solid wood, stock wood, fiberglass-composite, aluminum, and steel. Most St Louis doors

companies recommend wooden doors to those who are looking for high-quality doors, but who are working within a tight budget.

Sidings. They appear as less significant parts of the house, but sidings enhance the appearance and utility of the faade. Siding St Louis

contractors are keen and meticulous in choosing a material for the siding. Most of them prefer fiber cement over vinyl, wood, and stucco. Fiber cement sidings are resistant to fire, hail, mold, and mildew. They also look as good as wood.

Windows. Windows differ in their frame material. Frames can be made up of aluminum, metal, composite, fiberglass, vinyl, or wood. Replacement windows St Louis Mo

companies highly recommend vinyl, fiberglass, and composite frames. These provide a high thermal resistance, thus keeping normal temperature inside the house.

Mauritanian refugees begin returning home from Senegal

Mauritanian refugees begin returning home from Senegal
    Posted in Uncategorized | May 26th, 2021

    Tuesday, January 29, 2008

Mauritanian refugees stuck in Senegal for nearly two decades after fleeing ethnic clashes in their home country have begun returning to Mauritania under a U.N.-sponsored program. But many do not want to return.

There were goodbye ceremonies and welcoming ceremonies attended by officials on both sides of the Senegal River as more than 100 former refugees were ferried on motorized pirogues.

A spokesman for the United Nations refugee agency, Alphonse Munyaneza, explained international funding will help pay for resettlement.

“Each refugee returning back to Mauritania will receive a piece of land equivalent to 140 square meters for establishing a house. UNHCR and the government of Mauritania will provide construction material so that they can build a house,” explained Munyaneza. “We will provide three months of food ration. We will provide a tent also.”

Each refugee returning back to Mauritania will receive a piece of land equivalent to 140 square meters for establishing a house.

Mauritanian refugee children broke out in song and laughter when officials arrived at their camps close to the border to get the process going.

There are more than 20,000 Mauritanian refugees in Senegal. Officials say the return program will extend over 18 months.

One of those happy to go is Haddy Sy. She says she left Mauritania after she was beaten up. This took place during a wave of ethnic violence that began in Arab Moor-dominated Mauritania in 1989 and escalated into border clashes, forcing tens of thousands of black, mostly ethnic Fula, Mauritanians into exile.

In the late 1990s, more than 30,000 refugees returned by their own means and some U.N. assistance.

Sy says she is leaving behind many good things in Senegal, including a peaceful setting, but that she is still happy to return to her home country.

Since taking office last year, the government of the elected, post-coup President Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi has been making efforts to bring home the refugees, including several thousand more in Mali.

But many in Senegal do not want to return home, like Yaraah Sow, who lives in the Dagana refugee camp about 400 kilometers northwest of Dakar.

He says he is still very bitter about what happened nearly 20 years ago. He said his father, who was a civil servant, was attacked by a mob and died of internal bleeding at the gates of a hospital after doctors refused to treat him.

Sow accuses the military of seizing all his family’s property. He says that two of his younger brothers died on the trip to Senegal. He says his children are now going to school and that they are better off in Senegal.

One of the refugee leaders, Mohamed Ali Sow, who left when he was 10, says he is studying at a university in Senegal to become a lawyer to defend the rights of chased out Mauritanians.

He says the return program has been rushed, because he says people who had their property seized, houses burned, and jobs taken away, should have guarantees these will be restored. He says until then, he does not think it is wise to go back.

Mehmet Okur scored 12 of the last 14 points for the Utah Jazz in the final minutes of their game against the Chicago Bulls on Monday night, propelling the Jazz to a 100-95 win against the Bulls. Okur finished with 20 points and was the high scorer for the Jazz, who now have won three in a row. He played most of the fourth quarter despite picking up a fifth foul early in the final period. In addition to Okur’s contribution, Deron Williams contributed 18 points and 13 rebounds in the effort.

Kirk Hinrich was the game’s leading scorer with 26 points, and Luol Deng contributed 23. However, the Jazz shot 50% from the field and dished out 24 total assists. The Bulls could not match those numbers, only shooting 40% and earning 15 assists. The lack of ball movement was obvious early on, as the Bulls committed three offensive fouls in the second quarter – all as the result of Bulls players attempting to drive the ball rather than pass and try to break the effective zone of the Utah Jazz. Ben Gordon also picked up a flagrant foul early in the second quarter, starting off what would be an ugly twelve minutes for the visiting Bulls. The Bulls were outscored 33-18 in the second quarter, leaving them down 57-43 at the half.

It almost wasn’t enough of a lead for the Jazz, as the Bulls were able to fight back and cut the lead to three with a three-point shot from Chris Duhon with 1:20 remaining in regulation time. However, the Jazz answered right back with an Okur three-point field goal, and the Bulls could not recover. While the Bulls would answer back with another field goal, the Jazz would score the next four points and pull away with the victory.

    • Andres Nocioni was scratched with a foot injury. Team doctors believe that he may have a torn or inflamed plantar fascia; MRI results are not due back for another day or two. [1]
    • Jazz coach Jerry Sloan received a technical foul for arguing with the officials midway through the fourth quarter.
    • Earlier in the day, the Bulls’ Tyrus Thomas was named as one of the four participants in the 2008 Slam Dunk Competition during All-Star Weekend in Las Vegas.
