How To Shop For Reconditioned Electric Motors

byadmin

If your company uses electric motors, you ATZ. Here are some ways you can get more for your money.

The Importance of Finding the Right RebuilderMany kinds of equipment have specific standards to follow when it comes to reconditioning or rebuilding. However, this is not the case with equipment like a Reliance DC Motor B508ATZ. In fact, there are no set standards so anyone can take a used motor, test it, clean it up, paint it, and sell it as “reconditioned” even though they did nothing to improve a secondhand motor.

When you shop for industrial motors, you should check out a reputable rebuilder. The price of a used Reliance DC Motor B508ATZ is expensive so you could waste valuable time and money if you think you are getting a good reconditioned motor. But how can you separate the good rebuilders from the pretenders? Here are some things to look for.

TestingThe best companies use a meggar test. This effectively measures the wiring insulation resistance. A poor test can indicate the motor might not have many hours left.

Make sure the rebuilder does a high potential test too. This is another way to ensure the wiring insulation is in good condition. Also called a “dielectric withstand test” or “hipot,” it checks to make sure no current flows from one insulated area to another.

The best companies do surge comparison testing and disassemble the motors. They check all components and replace bad parts. This gives you a motor you can depend on at an affordable price.

Open source game developer Perttu Ahola talks about Minetest with Wikinews

Tuesday, June 30, 2020

Recently, Finnish open-source video game developer Perttu Ahola discussed Minetest, his “longest ever project”, with Wikinews.

Started in October 2010, Minetest was an attempt by Ahola to create a sandbox game similar to Minecraft. Minecraft is a multi-platform commercial game, which was in alpha version when Ahola challenged himself to create something similar to it from scratch, he told Wikinews.

Minetest is an open-source game, which is free for anyone to download and play. It is written in the C++ programming language, and the source code is available on code-hosting site GitHub. According to Ahola, Minetest attempts to run on older hardware, with limited graphics, but to be accessible to more people: those who have outdated technology, and making it available for no cost. Minecraft, on the other hand, is a paid game, currently costing USD 26.95 for its computer version. Minecraft is currently owned by Microsoft, and performs poorly on older hardware.

A correspondent from French Wikinews contacted Perttu Ahola via Internet Relay Chat a few weeks ago, discussing Minecraft. This interview is built on top of the previous interview, as we take a deeper dive into knowing more about this free game which is about to turn ten years old in a few months.

Food with cancer-causing dye recalled in Britain

    Saturday, April 30, 2005

The British Food Standards Agency (FSA) has announced a recall of foods containing banned dyes which increase the risk of cancer. The food products were sold at the Tesco, Waitrose, and Somerfield supermarkets.

A Bristol company called “Barts Spices” found the illegal Para Red substance in their Barts Ground Paprika, which was sold in 48g and 46g jars with a “Co-op” label. The batch codes on the affected products are 5032 and 5089 (expiration Dec 2007), and 5075 (expiration February 2007).

Tesco also found that their 130g package of BBQ rice cakes (expiration November and December 2005) contained both Para Red and Sudan I.

“It would be very prudent to assume that it could be a genotoxic carcinogen,” FSA scientific advisers told reporters.

“As a company committed to supplying only the very finest quality food ingredients, we took the immediate decision to withdraw our ground paprika spice from all outlets selling the product and advertised a product recall in the national press,” a Barts Spices spokesman said in a statement.

Sudan I is only authorized for industrial use to colorize petroleum products, such as shoe polish. Para Red and Sudan I are banned under the British Colours in Food Regulations of 1995.

Britain last went through a major food recall in February, when Worcester Sauce was found to contain chili powder dyed with Sudan 1.

Shimon Peres discusses the future of Israel

Shimon Peres discusses the future of Israel
    Posted in Uncategorized | May 9th, 2021

    Wednesday, January 9, 2008

This year Israel turns sixty and it has embarked upon a campaign to celebrate its birthday. Along with technology writers for Slate, PC Magazine, USA Today, BusinessWeek, Aviation Weekly, Wikinews was invited by the America-Israel Friendship League and the Israeli Foreign Ministry to review Israel’s technology sector. It’s part of an effort to ‘re-brand the country’ to show America that there is more to Israel than the Palestinian conflict. On this trip we saw the people who gave us the Pentium processor and Instant Messaging. The schedule was hectic: 12-14 hours a day were spent doing everything from trips to the Weizmann Institute to dinner with Yossi Vardi.

On Thursday, the fifth day of the junket, David Saranga of the foreign ministry was able to arrange an exclusive interview for David Shankbone with the President of Israel, Nobel Peace Prize recipient Shimon Peres. For over an hour they spoke about Iranian politics, whether Israel is in danger of being side-lined in Middle Eastern importance because of Arab oil wealth, and his thoughts against those who say Israeli culture is in a state of decay.

The only crime I committed was to be a little bit ahead of time. And if this is the reason for being controversial, maybe the reason is better than the result.

Shimon Peres spent his early days on kibbutz, a bygone socialist era of Israel. In 1953, at the age of 29, Peres became the youngest ever Director General of the Ministry of Defense. Forty years later it was Peres who secretly gave the green light for dialogue with Yassir Arafat, of the verboten Palestine Liberation Organization. It was still official Israeli policy to not speak with the PLO. Peres shares a Nobel Peace Prize with Yitzak Rabin and Arafat for orchestrating what eventually became the Oslo Accords. The “roadmap” that came out of Oslo remains the official Israeli (and American) policy for peace in the Palestinian conflict. Although the majority of Israeli people supported the plans, land for peace was met with a small but fiery resistance in Israel. For negotiating with Arafat, former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shouted at Peres, “You are worse than Chamberlain!” a reference to Hitler’s British appeaser. It was during this time of heated exchanges in the 1990s that Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated by Yigal Amir, a Jew who thought it against Halakhic law to give up land given by God (Hashem).

Peres is the elder statesman of Israeli politics, but he remembers that he has not always been as popular as he is today. “Popularity is like perfume: nice to smell, dangerous to drink,” said Peres. “You don’t drink it.” The search for popularity, he goes on to say, will kill a person who has an idea against the status quo.

Below is David Shankbone’s interview with Shimon Peres, the President of Israel.

    Self Storage For Quick Results

Posted in Office Furniture | May 8th, 2021

    Submitted by: Tony Mile

It’s that time of year again! Spring cleaning. The infamous, dreaded, yet enlightening time of year that every mom, dad, bachelor, bachelorette, and everyone in between dreads. Perhaps it’s just all of the unusual, random items that you find in the bottom of your closet. Or perhaps it’s the regret for leaving that peanut butter and jelly sandwich to be smushed between the couch cushions.

Either way, it’s a very important time of the year. Now say, for example, that you happened to be the type who had a lot of junk…but it was good junk. Perhaps you were planning for a baby only to discover that you weren’t pregnant—it was just stress. Or perhaps you’ve had multiple babies and they’re going on to have their own children. Maybe you hope to one day give them the things that you used when they were a baby in order to help them out. Or maybe you have some clothes for the babies they already have.

It doesn’t matter what your reasons are—sometimes, you really do need that stuff. Collectables, antique furniture…it’s all good to keep. Your only job is to sort out what you want to use and what you don’t want to use. After that, it’s simple!

Unfortunately, you may be wondering where exactly you’ll be keeping your special things. After all—if they have to be dug out of the Charybdis-like monster that is your closet, they need a more suitable home. Which is where the innovation of self storage comes to mind!

Self storage may seem a bit…odd. You might be uncertain of how safe it is. But, in reality, it is amazingly safe to store your special items in a self storage facility.

Most facilities not only require you to have a lock, but you also must have a pin number so that you can come in. Not just anyone can walk in. Even your guests have to be verified—if they are in a separate vehicle. You still might be thinking “What if they sneak in? Could they still steal my things?”

In this case, the security guards and cameras should catch them. They’re at the entrances, in the facilities—anywhere that a potential thief might sneak in. By the time that they got to your self storage unit, they would already be apprehended and awaiting the police to come and take them to be processed and booked down at the police station.

Not to mention that, if you happen to want or need another storage unit, it’s extremely easy to go ahead and get another one. That way, any items that you don’t need at the moment are safe and sound.

Don’t forget that you don’t just have to put your old things in your storage units. Say that you moved a lot in the area—or perhaps you’re going out to sea and your lease is up so you figured it would be more cost efficient to store it instead. No matter what your reason is, most people can use a storage unit.

Ex-ambassador comes fifth in election in UK Foreign Secretary’s seat whilst trying to highlight alleged torture in Uzbekistan
    Posted in Uncategorized | May 6th, 2021

    Monday, May 9, 2005

In the recent UK general election, Craig Murray stood as candidate against Jack Straw in the Blackburn constituency. Murray was attempting to bring about public debate and public knowledge of Straw’s alleged complicity in Uzbek CIA torture. Straw retained his seat with 17,562 votes (42%), while Murray came fifth with 2,082 votes (5%).

Craig Murray was British Ambassador to Uzbekistan in 2002 and 2003. A career diplomat, Murray had a good record of success behind him, but was withdrawn from Uzbekistan after he publicly decried the widespread use of torture in that country. He was quoted in the Financial Times as claiming the MI6 used intelligence gained by the Uzbek authorities by torture.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) stated at the time that “It’s now felt it’s no longer possible Mr. Murray can do his job effectively so he’s been withdrawn.” Mr. Murray was receiving medical treatment at the time for on-going ill health, including a near-fatal pulmonary embolism. He had previously been flown to London after collapsing during a medical check in Uzbekistan.

Craig Murray’s campaign website says, “A vote for Jack Straw is a vote for torture. Jack Straw expressly agreed that MI6 should use intelligence material obtained under torture, in tyrannical regimes like Uzbekistan.”

Two months before the UK election Channel Four premiered the program “Torture:The Dirty Business” which showed that the Uzbekistan government routinely uses torture to interrogate prisoners. It showed that CIA had sent prisoners to that country to be tortured in a procedure known as rendition.

The program alleged that UK’s MI5 received information obtained by torture. The FCO released a statement to the program claiming that they would never do anything to encourage torture, but that it would be “irresponsible” to rule out the use of any information received from a foreign government if such information could help protect British citizens. In the same program Craig Murray stated that after he raised objections to the use of information extracted under torture, his superiors informed him that Jack Straw had personally authorised the policy.

According to the program, confessions from tortured prisoners that suggested a link between Iraq and Al Qaeda could have contributed towards the case built by the government for going to war in Iraq. Information extracted under torture is known to be unreliable because prisoners can be coerced to say anything.

Craig Murray’s Blackburn campaign received widespread media attention around the world, although coverage was more limited in the UK (see below for links to some articles covering the Craig Murray campaign).

    Designer Dog Debate Heats Up}

    Designer Dog Debate Heats Up

    by

Mitch EndickOne of the newest trends in dog breeding today is the designer dog. Designer dogs often referred to as hybrids, have caught on with a growing number of pet owners. There is debate brewing over whether these designer pups are worth the price many folks are willing to pay.

Many breeders of purebred dogs are skeptical of the trend can contend that crossbreeding can result in medical and genetic problems. Supporters of the practice dismiss these concerns, with many hybrid breeders claiming that crossbred dogs are healthier than their purebred cousins.

As a consumer society, many people measure their social status by what they own. While most of us see a womans purse, others see a designer handbag. The same can be said for shoes, luggage and other personal accessories. Since a $50 suitcase performs the same function as a $500 Louis Vuitton designer suitcase, there seems to be little difference. An argument can be made that owning a designer suitcase is merely an attempt to create a self-image. The owner of the designer bag may argue that spending more money means getting a higher quality bag.

Now dogs are not handbags and dog breeding is a multi-billion dollar business, both in America and abroad. Dogs of all breeds enjoy a status similar to children in many homes and an entire industry has grown up around showing, grooming and caring for these special creatures. There are several large organizations that have taken the lead in defining the standard for what are considered recognized purebred dogs. These groups have a vested interest in maintaining control over defining the standards for purebred dogs.

    What Is a Designer Dog?

The basic idea behind designer dogs involves the marriage of two distinct dog breeds. According to the American Canine Hybrid Club, breeders of designer dogs use a rating system to designate the generational breeding tree. For example, an F1 crossbreed results from the breeding of two purebred dogs. A popular type of hybrid breed is the Labradoodle, a cross breeding of a purebred Labrador retriever and a purebred Standard Poodle. The result of this F1 breeding is typically a curly-haired retriever.

Following the F type classification can get a little complicated. For example, an F1-B Labradoodle is a blend of 25 percent Labrador Retriever and 75 percent Standard Poodle. In other words, an F1 Labradoodle has been bred back to a Standard Poodle. As the breeding goes through additional stages the F classification changes yet again. An F2 classification is the breeding of two F1 dogs, in this case two Labradoodles. An F3 classification is the breeding of two F2 dogs. Finally, an F3 is a combination of two F2 dogs.

    Canine Club Conflicts

It is important to note that the reigning kennel clubs do not recognize the current crop of designer or hybrid dog breeds. This is an interesting position since many of the currently recognized breeds are themselves creations of crossbreeding.

Some critics of the designer dog craze argue that dogs of mixed breeding are available at many local dog shelters. Claming that adoption fees at shelters are a fraction of the cost an owner may pay for a hybrid breed. Hybrid breeders counter that the lineage of adopted pound dogs cannot be traced and no better than adopting any other mutt. The money spent on a certified hybrid is worth it, citing the paper trail available on the lineage of hybrid dogs.

    Adoption versus Breeding

Some advocates of canine adoption report that many dog shelters and pound rescue operations are near capacity, with more dogs being euthnized every year. This despite increased public education campaigns promoting adoption over breeding and increased efforts to get owners to spay and neuter their dogs. Breeders of purebred and designer dogs argue that they are merely responding to market demands, providing dog fanciers with a wider variety of options.

    Owner Responsibilities

Whatever side of this intense debate people are on, there is no doubt that it will continue for the foreseeable future. Dog lovers have a responsibility to consider not only their own needs, but what is right for the dog. Every dog is an individual, even dogs of the same breed, though some have shared characteristics. Before choosing a dog, whether a purebred, hybrid or just an average mutt, be fully aware of the responsibilities of pet ownership and choose a dog that is right for you and your lifestyle. Just as important is to make sure you are right for the dog.

Rahul Mahajan’s condition has improved and has been taken off ventilator support. Rahul’s CT scan report is normal and his vital parameters have shown an improvement. He will however, be kept under observation for another 3 days. “The condition of Rahul Mahajan has gradually improved over the last 12 hours. After due assessment of clinical status and investigation, our team of doctors found his vital parameters improving,” a medical bulletin released by the Apollo Hospital said.

    Friday, June 2, 2006

Rahul Mahajan, the son of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan has been admitted to the Apollo Hospital in New Delhi in a critical state, apparently after a drug overdose. Rahul was found in an unconscious state in his father’s residence in New Delhi early today morning. Vivek Moitra, Pramod Mahajan’s secretary who was with Rahul at the party has been declared dead presumably as a result of the same drug. Police say the Rahul, Vivek and three other men were drinking champagne together and were also apparently consuming cocaine. This assumption is based of the fact that opiate traces were found in the deceased Mr. Moitra’s pocket.

Doctors described Rahul’s condition as “critical but stable”. They said that details regarding what led to his present condition would be revealed after the conduction of a toxicology test. Two domestic helps rushed the men to hospital in the early hours of today morning. The helps disturbed the scene by clearing up the glasses and the bottles. Traces of what seems to be cocaine were however found in one the glasses.

Rahul is currently on a ventilator and his condition will have to be closely monitored for the next couple of days. He was supposed to visit Assam tomorrow to immerse his father’s ashes in the Brahmaputra. Mr. Pramod Mahjan died about a month ago after being shot by his brother. Rahul was on anti-depressants as a result of this.

One thousand residents of the Defense Department-managed Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C. filed a class-action lawsuit on May 24, asserting that the cut-backs in medical and dental services imposed by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld are illegal. The operating budget for the home was reduced from $63 million in 2004 to $58 million for 2005. The residents cite cuts in on-site X-ray, electrocardiogram, physical and dental services, and the closing of the home’s main clinic and an on-site pharmacy.

Chief Financial Officer Steve McManus responded that the changes not only save money but also achieved improved efficiencies. “We’re really trying to improve the benefits to our residents,” he said.

Most of the home’s costs are paid for by a trust fund and monthly fees paid by residents. By law, the Armed Forces Retirement Homes are required to fund, “on-site primary care, medical care and a continuum of long-term care services.”
