Alternative Health Products: The Natural Way to Digestive Health

by

A common question asked by patients of natural medicine practitioners is how to achieve healthy digestive function naturally. This is a great question to explore, because so many of us struggle with indigestion, constipation, diarrhea or other gastric upset. Here’s an overview of a few of the alternative health products that may keep your digestion running smoothly.

HCL (Hydrochloride): If you’re over sixty, or past menopause, and often experience bloating, indigestion, diarrhea or aren’t able to tolerate oral supplements, it’s possible these symptoms are caused by a lack of gastric acid secretion by the stomach. Without this acid secretion, what you eat isn’t fully digested and causes all kinds of digestive upsets. Nutritional supplement experts are advocating the ingestion of HCL to aid in the digestion of protein, in particular.

Lipase: This plant enzyme is reported by natural health advocates to be helpful in the metabolism of fat. The inability to properly metabolize fat can be seen in two ways: constant stomach upset or the inability to gain weight. Lipase has also been found to be important in the correct processing of triglycerides and other harmful fats.

L-Acidophilus: This probiotic is essential for complete digestion of food. People with low levels of this microorganism in their digestive systems might, for example, have trouble digesting dairy foods. For that reason, some products such as milk and yogurt may have L-Acidophilus added to aid in their digestion. Also look for L-Acidophilus in supplement form.

Berberine: A plant alkaloid found in several plant species, berberine has long been used by Chinese medicine practitioners. They believe it to be helpful to inhibit fungus such as yeast in the digestive tract, while not harming helpful microorganisms.

Fiber Supplements: Many recent studies have proven the benefit of dietary fiber. It’s been touted as the simplest method of lowering cholesterol and reducing the risk of heart disease. If you find it difficult to eat enough fiber every day, a fiber supplement can provide the same benefit, as well as cleansing the digestive tract and preventing constipation.

One of the best fiber supplement ingredients to look for is psyllium husks, which absorb large amounts of water and form a sticky substance that removes hardened matter from the colon. Natural remedies such as psyllium husks keep the colon clear without pharmaceuticals.

L-Carnitine: One of the most popular amino acid supplements is L-Carnitine, which supplements the same amino acid your liver creates when you eat meat. If you’re a vegetarian, you must find another way to introduce this essential amino acid into your system, as it helps to metabolize fat at the cellular level so it can be used as energy. A lack of L-Carnitine in the body can cause all fat ingested to be stored rather than metabolized, resulting in weight gain.

No matter your digestive issue, there is an herb, plant compound or other alternative health product that may help. Work with your alternative medicine provider to determine which nutritional supplements to try.

Look for the purest form of each, those without fillers or additives. Pay careful attention to dosage instructions, as these are powerful compounds with possible side effects when misused.

Natural remedies have been used for centuries by natural health practitioners. Consider these alternative health products when looking for a way to build digestive health naturally.

Food with cancer-causing dye recalled in Britain

    Saturday, April 30, 2005

The British Food Standards Agency (FSA) has announced a recall of foods containing banned dyes which increase the risk of cancer. The food products were sold at the Tesco, Waitrose, and Somerfield supermarkets.

A Bristol company called “Barts Spices” found the illegal Para Red substance in their Barts Ground Paprika, which was sold in 48g and 46g jars with a “Co-op” label. The batch codes on the affected products are 5032 and 5089 (expiration Dec 2007), and 5075 (expiration February 2007).

Tesco also found that their 130g package of BBQ rice cakes (expiration November and December 2005) contained both Para Red and Sudan I.

“It would be very prudent to assume that it could be a genotoxic carcinogen,” FSA scientific advisers told reporters.

“As a company committed to supplying only the very finest quality food ingredients, we took the immediate decision to withdraw our ground paprika spice from all outlets selling the product and advertised a product recall in the national press,” a Barts Spices spokesman said in a statement.

Sudan I is only authorized for industrial use to colorize petroleum products, such as shoe polish. Para Red and Sudan I are banned under the British Colours in Food Regulations of 1995.

Britain last went through a major food recall in February, when Worcester Sauce was found to contain chili powder dyed with Sudan 1.

Library Stores, The Best Place For Royalty Free Music.

Library stores, the best place for royalty free music.

    by

    Clifford Witbeck

Royalty free music is music which allows the purchaser to use it without having to pay any royalties. Once a copy of the music has been bought it can be used as much or as little as the purchaser wishes without having to pay any royalties on the use of the music. Many people will subscribe to a service which allows them to browse a wide collection of different pieces of music which they don\’t need to pay royalties on. A fee is only paid once for commercial music and it can be used as many times as the purchaser wishes and the copyright is also protected so there is no need to worry. When browsing a library of music without royalties there is the opportunity to listen to tracks without cost so that it can be decided that it is the right track, the track(s) can then be downloaded to a CD or in digital formats.

When a popular song is heard on the radio and someone wants to add it to a presentation or production, they are unable to do so without having to pay royalties and each time it is used royalties must be paid. By selecting to choose music which doesn\’t require royalties to be paid, there are many tracks which sound similar to the music available on the radio and which can easily be added to productions and presentations.

Stock music can also be downloaded at no cost along with sound effects, stock footage and many images; these can be for personal or educational use. Using these at no cost can help when creating a presentation which needs to impress, it helps to develop the points being made and captures the attention of the audience keeping them engaged. Music has been known to impress people, when there is such a wide choice of music available it is important to find the piece which best reflects the use for it. Stock music is free to download and there is no need to subscribe to a service to use these tracks.

A music library of stock music will have thousands of different tracks available; some will have been re-edited, or re-mixed for finer beats. All of the tracks are affordable to purchase, and so high quality audio files can be used at good value for money. When purchasing these music tracks it can often be found that there are discount options available if buying a full album or a large number of individual tracks. All tracks available to be downloaded are watermarked; there are a wide range of different tracks available which can be edited to create unique tracks which suit the style of use. It is becoming increasingly popular to mix old beats with new vocals to create something new and different, providing an innovative track.

It is possible to access royalty free music which has been reviewed and analyzed so that the best result is produced; the analysis consists of the styles used. By choosing this option subscribers have the flexibility to choose the tracks and styles which suit them best. Subscribing means that there is no longer any need to download full albums to only get the one track that is needed, instead individual tracks can be downloaded meaning that it is easier to get the track that is required.

There are many different collections of music available at no cost and they can be used to enhance an experience whether at a party or through a presentation. There are many tracks available which might add an extra dimension to Christmas or Halloween.

Partners In Rhyme is a well established company offering a large library of

    royalty free music

, allowing people to download the music required for their productions, projects, or presentations.

Explicit Canadian workplace safety ads pulled from TV due to Christmas season

Explicit Canadian workplace safety ads pulled from TV due to Christmas season
    Posted in Uncategorized | April 3rd, 2021

    Thursday, December 13, 2007

Controversial and explicit Canadian workplace safety ads have been pulled from television, and paper ads from some bus shelters for the Christmas season. However, the ads will return to air in January.

“It’s totally erroneous to suggest we’re pulling anything,” chairman of the Workplace Safety and Information Board of Ontario, Steve Mahoney said. “Our plan from Day 1 was to stop the ads around the middle of December when most of the advertising that’s in the media is focused on Christmas and purchasing gifts. We just didn’t want to be competing with all that stuff.”

In one of the TV ads a woman accidentally slips on grease on the floor and a large steaming pot falls onto her face, and she starts screaming to death. The ads end with the message “There really are no accidents”.

A paper ads shows a construction worker who is in a pool of blood with a forklift operation manual stuck in his chest. Another with a man who is slit by a “Danger” sign with his leg stuck in a machine. They show the messages: “Lack of training can kill” and the other “Ignoring safety procedures can kill”.

“The critics amount to about 25 per cent rating, and I’m delighted they’re upset about the ads because I wouldn’t want anyone to enjoy watching them.”

The videos have been viewed more than 70,000 times on the Board’s website and are gaining large amounts of views on YouTube.

The transit authorities of Hamilton and Mississauga will show modified advertisements. The transit authority of Guelph will show the ads in bus shelters, but the transit authority of Windsor will not because of the graphic nature.

“We’re not against workplace safety, but this is too graphic,” said Caroline Postma, chair of the Transit Windsor board.

Mississauga city councillour Carolyn Parrish said: “My son-in-law was telling me that they shouldn’t be on in prime time because when [my grandson] watches them he just about bursts into tear. Now he follows his mom around the kitchen to make sure she doesn’t spill grease. And he’s only four. There’s too much of a chance that … people are really badly affected by it, and can’t really do anything about it anyway.” She suggested the ads only be aired to workers with the jobs shown in the commercials.

Mahoney changed the earlier promise to air the ads only after 8:00pm to after 9:00pm at last nights meeting with Mississauga city council.

Mahoney said the commercials and paper ads are not “too graphic at all”. And they are “absolutely appropriate and they’re doing what they’re intended to do, they’re creating what I call a water cooler topic of conversation.”

Ninety-eight Canadian workers so far have been killed on the job this year.

Explosion at University of Missouri-Columbia leaves four injured

Explosion at University of Missouri-Columbia leaves four injured
    Posted in Uncategorized | March 29th, 2021

    Wednesday, June 30, 2010

An explosion at the University of Missouri-Columbia (Mizzou) on Monday afternoon left four people injured, authorities say.

The explosion occurred in a science laboratory in Schweitzer Hall around 2:20 p.m. CDT (1920 UTC) Monday. The source of the explosion was first thought to have been a 2,000-pound (907.2-kilogramme) hydrogen tank, but fire officials later said that this was not the case. The cause of the incident is currently under investigation by the Columbia Fire Department.

The Columbia Fire Department arrived at Schweitzer Hall after a report of a structure fire, but found that most of the fire had already been extinguished by the building’s fire sprinkler system. The remaining flames were put out by firefighters, one of whom said it looked as if “a bomb went off in the lab”.

Of the four hurt in the blast, one was a research scientist, one a graduate student, and the other two postdoctoral fellows. Three were treated for mild injuries and released from University Hospital, while the fourth was in good condition after being taken to the hospital’s burn unit for life-threatening injuries. A school spokesperson said that the university was not allowed to release the names of the victims.

Authorities initially believed that a large container of hydrogen gas had exploded, but investigators later said that the tank was intact. Fire officials also retracted an earlier statement that said the incident had been a result of human error. In a Monday night news release, the fire department said that lab workers had turned on the hydrogen but did not recognize warning signs indicating a dangerously high level of hydrogen gas in the lab, so they left the gas supply running. The report said the explosion occurred after the gas reached a source of ignition. However, the department said Tuesday that the investigation into the explosion is still ongoing and that they were not certain human error was the cause.

The investigation should determine the cost of repairs for the building, as well as whether the school should implement new procedures to avoid similar incidents in the future. The lab where the explosion took place will be totally rebuilt.

Schweitzer Hall houses Mizzou’s biochemistry department, which is part of the medical and agricultural programs. The building’s single classroom is located in the basement and was not in use at the time. The explosion happened on a third-story lab assigned to Judy Wall, a university professor, who was in her office across from the lab during the incident and referred inquiries to the news bureau. Other labs in the building were not disturbed, and Schweitzer Hall was established to be structurally sound, although nearly twenty windows had been shattered from the blast. The building reopened Tuesday for researchers to continue working.

    Top Property Investment Secrets For Aussies To Be A Good Real Estate Investor}

Posted in Property Investment | March 29th, 2021

    Submitted by: Christine Newman

Some have said that investing in real estate is a good way to make money. But with the global economic crisis in our hands, buying and selling property has become incredibly difficult. Because of this dilemma, more and more people in Australia are having second thoughts of becoming property investors.

But this shouldnt be the case. Because if truth be told, there is still a lot of money you can earn in real estate. You just need to know how to become a good real estate investor.

Rick Otton, a real estate guru and writer of How to Buy a House for $1, has been sharing his creative property investment knowledge and skills to potential investors. His goal is to show the dos and donts in the real estate business to help people succeed in property investing. Here are some practical tips:

? Know your potential buyers. Theres a saying, if you give people what they want, they will be willing to give you what you want. Hence, if you want them to close a deal with you, you must be able to provide them what they need or solutions to their problems. You wont be able to do that if you dont know your buyers.

    – Get good exposure for your property. If the property youre selling is located for example in dead-end areas where people cant quickly see your property, the best strategy you can do is to make pointer signs and place it in the busier streets near to your property to try and encourage people that might be interested to your property. Aside from this, you can also place an ad in a newspaper and create encouraging notes to make the reader become more interested to it.

    – Link-up with a mortgage broker for they have a steady-stream of people who want mortgages strike a deal with them and give them a finder-free for pushing business your way.

    – If you are already experienced, you dont have to go to your property for buyers to see it. You can simply put a padlock or lock-box on the front door and if a potential buyer called you up to see the property, you can simply give them the code and let themselves take a look around in the property.

    – Dont forget about the previous buyers because you can still approach them to your other properties. Its a human nature that buyers want to progress to a bigger and better house.

    – Create an effective slogan to your property that can catch up buyers attention.

    – In real estate office youll see business cards. Collect those and try to email it or text it and create a message that will strike their curiosity.

In finding properties, alternative ways include reading a magazine like Government Gazette. Its a government magazine where you can subscribe to via direct mail or you can pick it up at your local library. You can also find people who are also into financing houses. Lawyers are also good in finding properties for sale.

Following these property investing strategies will help you become an effective and successful real estate investor. You can also expand your knowledge about real estate by attending seminars just like those hosted by Rick Otton. The advantage in these seminars is that you get to see actual case studies on how to solve common dilemmas found in real estate investment.

If you want a good book to read about real estate, try How to Buy a House for $1 by Rick Otton. Surely, you will never go wrong with this book! To learn more, come to Ricks upcoming book tour by reserving a seat for free at www.howtobuyahouseforadollar.com/register.

Apple unveils iPhone 4, iOS 4 at Worldwide Developers Conference 2010
    Posted in Uncategorized | March 26th, 2021

    Tuesday, June 8, 2010

Yesterday, at this year’s Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), company CEO Steve Jobs unveiled iPhone 4, along with the new iOS 4 operating system for Apple mobile devices.

The announcement was long-awaited but not a very big surprise. In April, the technology blog Gizmodo obtained a prototype of the new phone and published details of it online. While introducing iPhone 4, at the annual conference, Jobs started by hinting at the incident, saying, “Stop me if you’ve already seen this.”

The new iPhone was praised by Jobs as “the biggest leap we’ve taken since the original iPhone.” It is only 9.3 millimetres (0.37 inches) thick, making it “the thinnest smartphone on the planet”, a 24 percent reduction from Apple’s previous model, the iPhone 3GS. Structure-wise, iPhone 4 has a new stainless steel frame, which acts as an antenna, supposedly boosting its signal reception abilities and possibly reducing the amount of dropped calls. It also has a new screen, dubbed a “retina display,” which displays images at 326 pixels per inch. During the keynote, Jobs demoed the device’s new internal gyroscope as well. Even though it now uses Apple’s faster A4 processor (first used in its iPad tablet), iPhone 4 has a claimed seven hours of 3G talk time, up two hours from the 3GS.

In addition to its design features, Jobs showed off iPhone 4’s new video calling abilities. This feature is called FaceTime, and connects with other iPhone 4s via Wi-Fi. The phone has two cameras: one on the front for video chats, and one on the back for taking pictures and other videos. The rear camera has a resolution of five megapixels, is capable of recording high-definition video, and has an LED flash.

The iPhone 4 will use Apple’s latest mobile operating system, iOS 4. Formerly “iPhone OS,” iOS 4 was first introduced by Apple in April, and includes multitasking capabilities. Jobs called the new software “the most advanced mobile operating system in the world.” iOS will support Apple’s new mobile advertising service, iAd, which goes live on July 1.

iPhone 4 will be available on June 24 in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Japan. It comes in two colors—black and white—and two storage capacities. The 16GB version is priced at US$199 and the 32GB version at US$299. The iPhone 3GS’s price will be reduced to US$99, and the iPhone 3G will be discontinued. iOS will be available as a free software update to users of compatible older Apple devices (including the 3GS) on June 21. In the U.S., iPhone 4 will only be available on AT&T’s cellular network, despite calls for Apple to let the iPhone be used on other carriers, such as Verizon.

Competition-wise, the BlackBerry mobile device is still the most popular smartphone right now. Apple is also facing some serious competition from web giant Google’s Android operating system, as well as Palm’s webOS. Earlier this year, Android phones managed to outsell iPhones. iPhone users, however, account for over half of those surfing the Internet on a mobile browser in the U.S. Jobs also noted that over five billion iOS applications, commonly called “apps,” have been purchased from Apple’s App Store. The App Store currently has around 225,000 different apps for sale.

With victims of Hurricane Katrina moved to shelters and remote locations, their relatives and friends in other parts of the world have turned to the web to try and establish contact and confirm their health. Many families living in the path of Katrina have even been split up as they are rescued and now desperately need to contact each other.

Several web sites have started forums for posting information on missing people. The forums also allow individuals and families in the path of the hurricane who are safe post their information, where they are now located and how their family should contact them.

The American Red Cross is keeping records of all persons they treat and assist, but those records are not available either by phone or online. They have issued a press release titled AMERICAN RED CROSS URGENT FAMILY ALERT. Quoting, in part:

The Red Cross does not have information on the well being of any individuals.
